  2. originating in Zurich 1523. Members refuse to
  3. hold civil office or do military service, and
  4. reject infant baptism. They were named
  5. Mennonites after Menno Simons (1496-1559),
  6. leader of a group in Holland. When the
  7. Mennonites came under persecution, some
  8. settled in Germantown, Pennsylvania. The
  9. Hutterian Brethren (named after Jacob Hutter
  10. who died in 1536) hold substantially the same
  11. beliefs, and Hutterian principles are the
  12. basis of the Bruderhof.
